Good Questions
Before your first visit.
What conditions do you treat?
Dr. Nathan Fisher treats patients of all ages for a wide range of conditions, most commonly back and neck pain, headaches, and injuries or disorders of the musculoskeletal system. The goal is relieving pain and dysfunction through skillful adjustments, alongside guidance on eating and exercise habits. It is a holistic approach that treats the whole individual.
Are chiropractic adjustments safe?
Yes. Adjustments are considered among the safest and most effective non-invasive, drug-free treatments for neuromusculoskeletal issues. As with any treatment there is some potential for side effects, but the risk of adverse reactions is very small. Most patients feel relief immediately, and some experience temporary soreness similar to post-workout aches. Every adjustment is performed by a highly trained doctor of chiropractic with over 4,200 hours of classroom, lab and clinical training.
Do I need a referral?
Usually not. Most patients see a doctor of chiropractic without a referral from their primary care physician. It is still worth checking your specific plan requirements. Most major plans, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, cover chiropractic care.
Can children be treated here?
Absolutely. Kids benefit from chiropractic care just as adults do, especially active children who play sports and pick up the falls, strains and soreness that come with them. Dr. Fisher builds a gentle care plan around each child's individual needs.
What does an adjustment actually feel like?
Dr. Fisher uses his hands or a specialty instrument to manipulate the joints of the body, especially the spine, restoring proper joint function while relieving pain and reducing inflammation. Every adjustment is highly controlled and adapted to the individual patient. Most people report feeling noticeably better right afterward.
Why did I hear a popping sound?
That is normal. During an adjustment, gas bubbles trapped between joints get released, much like cracking your knuckles. The change in pressure inside the joint produces that distinct sound, and it is not associated with discomfort.
How long will treatment take?
It is highly individual. Because the treatment is hands-on, a number of visits is normally needed for it to work. Care can be acute, chronic or preventative. During your first visits Dr. Fisher will map out your plan and explain how long it is expected to last.
